Frequently asked questions

Our top 5 WDDN questions that are most asked by couples!

Can we talk through our day beforehand?

YES absolutely!

Approximately 10 weeks before your wedding day, I will send you booking forms to fill out. These forms cover all the details of your special day, including the schedule and, of course, your beloved dog's role.

We'll inquire about your dog's preferences and aversions, their outfit, planned activities, feeding times, and any specific instructions for different parts of the day.

Once you've returned these forms, our dog nanny will arrange a video call with you, during this call, you'll thoroughly go over each aspect of the day, focusing on your dog's needs.

Our nanny will take meticulous notes and address any concerns, including contingency plans if your dog encounters difficulties with certain elements of the wedding

Can you spend all day with my dog?

At Wedding Day Dog Nanny, we offer packages ranging from 4 to 10 hours of care

We request that you book us at least an hour before the ceremony or photo sessions, this allows us to assist your dog during these critical moments.

We can help your dog acclimate to the wedding environment, which can be overwhelming with decorations, flowers, and many suppliers setting up.

Regular toilet breaks are essential throughout the day to prevent any accidents, we'll also support your dog in interacting with guests, as this can be stressful for some dogs

Scheduled walks, meals, and ample rest time away from the wedding hubbub will help keep your dog comfortable and energized.

Dogs generally prefer not to be around loud music, so we provide a cosy, quiet area for them to retreat to during such times, ensuring they can have some cuddles too!

Why do you need to be with them at least one hour before the ceremony and or photos?

This hour allows our dog nanny to build a rapport with your dog, up until this point, they've likely only met on the day of the wedding. We want this introduction to be calm and unhurried, giving your dog the opportunity to approach our nanny at their own pace

Moreover, it gives our nannies time to familiarise themselves with the wedding venue and lets your dog explore and sniff around, especially in the ceremony room if they have a role there.

We understand that weddings can overwhelm dogs with all the new sights and smells, so we aim to minimize stress.

This time also enables our nanny to rehearse the ceremony with your dog, ensuring they are both familiar with cues and timings.

I'm worried about my wedding dress and the dog's paws!?

We've been taking care of dogs at weddings since 2019, and we specialise in this

Our approach involves keeping dogs on short leads around the guests, not only to protect their attire but also to predict and manage the dogs' behaviour

We never allow dogs near the wedding dress unless the bride invites us in for a cuddle (the dog, not the nanny, though occasionally the nanny might get a hug too!)

This interaction is carefully managed, and we wait for the bride to signal before approaching!

During photos, we wait for the photographer to position everyone, and we hand the dog's lead to the groom or a guest. We then use treats and, a squeaky ball to keep the dog focused on us. Once the photos are taken, we take back the dog, minimising any potential issues with outfits and paws!!

We come prepared with towels and cleaning wipes for wet days to keep the dog clean before the official parts of the day, we'll give them a quick brush and wipe down if needed.

How will you get my dog to do what we need on the day?

As previously mentioned, we thoroughly discuss your wedding day with you around 10 weeks in advance, this allows us to understand the best strategies to manage your dog during the wedding, if there are specific words or cues your dog responds to, we need to know them!

We also discuss contingency plans in case your dog struggles with the roles you've assigned to them on the day, we employ positive reinforcement training, using treats and favourite toys to build trust with your dog.

We take cues from how you usually manage your dog in various situations too

Since most dogs haven't attended weddings before, we understand that we're asking a lot of them on the day. Our role is to support their needs and act as their advocate to ensure they're comfortable and happy.

If your dog becomes stressed or anxious, we'll take them away briefly to help them relax and return at an appropriate time.

We always communicate with the photographers and establish contingency plans for capturing images in a more relaxed setting away from the wedding commotion.

Your dog's well-being is our top priority, and we're always ready to try again for photos at a later time. We maintain constant communication with the photographers to ensure the best outcome for everyone
