Puppies and Young Dogs at Weddings

Puppies at weddings are probably the BEST thing you have ever heard of …RIGHT!

But they need careful planning and support on the day

Here are 5 top tips on keeping your puppy happy and settled on your special day

1.     1.  Time to explore

Allowing puppies and young dogs at weddings time to explore the environment is important, especially around the ceremony area, letting them sniff and see everything from the flowers and decorations to the person performing the ceremony. This needs to take some time so as not to rush them, we usually arrive at least 1 hour before the ceremony to spend time with them to explore at their own pace. Visiting the venue as many times as possible before your special day can also help them become familiar with and confident

2.    2Sleep & more sleep!

Plenty of rest and time out, Puppies and young dogs need sleep otherwise they turn into little land sharks! Puppies need many hours of sleep a day to help them grow! it’s important for their development, growth and behaviour plus your clothes and fingers too! Tired puppies bite! an over-tired puppy is not what you want on your day hanging off your beautiful dress or trying to launch at each guest!

3.     3.  Dedicated chaperone

Having a dedicated chaperone enables your puppy and young dogs at weddings to feel comfortable and confident, it ensures all your Pup’s needs are met throughout the day and evening.

Having a dedicated chaperone who isn’t part of your wedding party is extremely important for the following reasons. Your wedding guests do not want to miss out on your vows, watching you cut the cake and take your first dance, they want to sit and chat with friends and family and enjoy their meal, they want to let their hair down for the day. Meaning your pup may miss their usual routine, ques being missed when they are feeling anxious or overwhelmed, not get enough sleep and become overtired not to mention elimination problems! (yep I talked about dog poop!!)

4.     4.  Keeping to your daily routine

Keeping to your daily routine as much as possible including nap time, play and feeding times, will help your puppy and young dogs at weddings hopefully be happier and more settled, their familiar daily routine will help them feel like things are a little normal! Having familiar items around such as favourite toys, bedding, blankets, and their usual feeding device. as well as items such as a Kong or puzzle balls as will help with distraction techniques and feeds them too!
