Wedding Day Dog Nanny, How did I find my way to this adventure?
Wedding Day Dog Nanny
How did I find my way to this adventure?
Throughout most of my working career, I have worked in the NHS! And when we relocated to Cornwall I wanted something different...... completely different to what I knew!
I had been doing some research on the industries on offer here in Cornwall and came up with a few ideas but not having any particular skill in, well anything other than helping people get better!! so I set to work studying!
A very dear friend of mine gave me a book around 10 years prior about dog behaviours and I remember thinking what am I going to do with this! since his passing, I kept hold of the book as a memory keepsake. Through moving several times and finally settling I unpacked boxes that had not been looked at for a long time, and yep you guessed it the book almost jumped out at me!
I spent time reading it, ordering more books about dogs and behaviour and eventually plucking up the courage to book on a course! I learnt so much about dogs, behaviours, managing dogs in different situations and the law around caring for dogs including keeping them safe
With my newfound love of learning as much as I could about dogs, it got me thinking about my future working with dogs, I was pretty sure dog training was not the way I wanted to go! (not because it's not awesome but because of the thought of standing in soggy fields with people not really taking on board the advice!) I wanted something a little more glam!!
Okay so not sure where I thought dogs and glam would go together haha!!
The emotional part..... Then out walking with my husband & little chihuahua we were discussing everything from the children and how they were settling, to our wedding day which was incredible apart from 1 element, our dogs couldn't be with us on the day because we couldn't find anyone to bring them to the wedding venue! I remember and still am devastated I didn't get professional photos of us as a complete family! we didn't have the chance to spend our most precious day with our 2 gorgeous dogs
(This for me is my biggest motivation for the business because I have experienced first-hand not having our dogs with us on our wedding day...and we all know how AWESOME dogs are at weddings!)
Your dogs are your family and they should be there on the day in some capacity
so after an emotional memory of our dogs not being involved on our special day, we started discussing what our future would look like and we played a game called 'you choose' (my children had a book where there were pages of different choices you could make to create the life you wanted Great fun for future goal setting!!)
so if you could choose what industry you would work in here in Cornwall what would it be?
- Weddings ....OH MY GOD I love weddings! always have! I have such fond memories of family and friends' weddings when I was growing up and into my adult life
So what would you do the weddings.....I used to be a photographer many years ago but I didn't want to go back to that! I can't bake and I don't have a floral bone in my body!.....I was a trained Nursery Nurse but I didn't want to care for children at weddings....
- But what about DOGS at weddings!!!
Dogs have always been a HUGE part of my life I have never lived without a dog! they have been all different sizes, temprements and various levels of crazy!
BOOOM that was the moment I actually thought IS this possible!, well lots of research training and hard graft here we are 4 years later making people's dreams come true and many many dogs that have joined the WDDN family!
We LOVE what we do & I am so pleased I took the chance on something new!
